Review: Forever This (Remix)

There is a haunting, bluesy feel about this track…in fact the lead vocal sounds almost like Nina Simone in places. And there are plenty of mixes that attempt to reign it in or amp it up, depending on the producer in question.

Legendary San Fran DJ Doc Martin brings a heady brew of a mix to the table with urgent keys and a generally raw feel built around a single stringy synth note and rolling bassline that build tension until the vocal pops in. It rounds off with an acidic undertone, soaring keys and congas to create a real journey of a track.

DJ WiLD strips things right down into more tracky territory, allowing the vocal to drop in and out the track in a spaced out manner. The beats are loose and free with a generally dubby feel that actually lends well to the vocal itself.

The David Glass Private Edit takes things more uptempo, all but removing the vocal until it breaks midway through…it’s more disco house with orchestral strings and clever brass samples worked in.

Chemars Love Edit is more Chi-Town a la DJ Sneak and Gene Farris. Authentic sounding and allowing the vocal to sit well in the groove. The Askander Forever Frisco Edit further celebrates that disco-based sound.

Leaving it to DJ Sneak himself to create the mix that will probably find most favour…taking the elements, giving them some punch and bringing a direct approach to the edit.

The vocal, a bit like Nina herself, may not sit well with all listeners but it’s a brave and bold track that could in fact crossover, if supported in the right places. And there are some great mixes to trial it out.
